Jack W. Haines, 89, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, June 4, 2016.
He was born July 2, 1926, on the family farm, in Sherman, New York, a son of the late Emory and Elsie Powers Haines.
Mr. Haines was a member of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Lexington CV-16 as plane captain.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a steel worker.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, post 191, and the U.S. Steel Workers Union.
Surviving are his daughters, Debra Rieck, of Canonsburg, Jacqueline Dinkins, and her husband Russell, of Summerdale, Alabama; five grandchildren, Thomas Rieck, Katherine Rieck, Joshua (Jessica) Dinkins, Zachary Dinkins, Colby Orrick; one great-grandchild, Jeramiah Dinkins; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Haines was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Spiller Haines; daughter, Lorie Orrick; brothers, John Haines, Royal "Sonny" Haines; sister, Ella Mae Anderson; and son-in-law, Thomas Rieck.
Friends will be received Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8, at the Sollon Funeral Home, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, 724-746-1000.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11am, in the funeral home, followed by burial in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray, with full military rites accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, post 191, honor guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to the VFW, post 191, in Jack Haines' name.
