Robert C. Rudge, 87, of Canonsburg, died Thursday, January 12, 2017, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 23, 1929, in Canonsburg, a son of James and Ruth Mawhinney Rudge.

Mr. Rudge graduated from Canonsburg High School with the class of 1946. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked from 1946 until his retirement in 1985, for the United States Postal Service, serving as postmaster in several Pittsburgh area post offices. At the time of his retirement, he was the Station and Branch Manager at the Pittsburgh Mail Service Center. Afterwards, he consulted for the University of Pittsburgh in its mailing services.

Mr. Rudge was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canonsburg.

He was proud to be a life member of the Canonsburg Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as President.

He was a member of the Canonsburg Council, serving several terms as President.

He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge #297 in Canonsburg, the Washington Golf Club, where he served as President, and the Canonsburg Parks & Recreation Board.

Mr. Rudge was a very loving, devoted, and dedicated husband and father. He greatly enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s athletic events. In addition, he was an avid golfer.

On June 18, 1949, he married Eileen Houlihan Rudge, with whom he shared over 67 years of marriage, who survives.

Also surviving are his son, Robert C. Rudge, Jr., and his wife, Patty, of Bethel Park; daughters, Robin D'Orazio, and her husband, Denny, of Canonsburg, Amy Jacobs, and her husband Steve, of Canonsburg; three sisters, Lois Davis, of Canonsburg, Virginia Kehrer of Landenberg, Janice Young, of Houston; seven grandchildren, Shelley (Stacy) Carbaugh, Daniel D'Orazio, Stephen (Karri) Jacobs, Megan Jacobs, Mackenzie Jacobs, Caitlin Rudge, Zach Rudge, one great-grandchild, Braden Carbaugh, and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James W. Rudge, Jr., three brothers-in-law, Edward Davis, Ernest Kehrer, Gary Young, and his sister-in-law, Mary Rudge.

Friends will be received Sunday 2-8pm at the Sollon Funeral Home, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, 724-746-1000.

Services will be held Monday in the Sollon Funeral Home, at 11am, followed by burial in the Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
