Flora Irene McCarthy, 86, of Houston, died Saturday, July 30, 2016, in her home.

She was born July 25, 1930, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Thomas and Lucia Baffa DeJohn.

Mrs. McCarthy was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, in Canonsburg.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Bruno, Dr. Lesnock, and Dr. Galetta.

She was a ten year volunteer at the Canonsburg General Hospital. She enjoyed reading, and loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On July 19, 1948, she married Robert N. McCarthy, who survives, with whom she shared over 68 years of marriage. Also surviving are her son, Kevin McCarthy, and his wife Darla, of Pittsburgh; daughter, Christine Kaezyk, of Houston; brother, Thomas DeJohn, and his wife Betty, of Canonsburg; 7 grandchildren, Christina (Matthew) Manges, Charles F. (Kelley) Kaezyk III, Courtney Kaezyk, Allison (Derek) Ford, First Lieutenant Emily McCarthy, Molly (Timothy) Bolton, James Hankins; 5 great-grandchildren, Austin, Connor, Mason, Brooks, Kerrigan; cousin, Phyllis Englert; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCarthy was preceded in death by brothers, Falco, Frank, Arthur, Carl, Joseph and Raymond DeJohn; and sisters Ella Giangola, Angeline Ballo, and Netti DeMarco.

Friends will be received Tuesday 2-8pm at the Sollon Funeral Home, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, 724-746-1000.

Departing prayers will be held in the Sollon Funeral Home, Wednesday at 9:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Patrick Church at 10am.

Interment will follow in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
